Sohail Farazi is an undergraduate Mechanical Engineering major (Minor in General Business) at the University of Virginia.
His interests center on autonomous robotic systems, and he is a member of the Mechatronics and Robotics Society, where he has designed 2 excavation systems for the club’s NASA Lunabotics competition robots. Previously, at the Flow Simulation Research Group, he reconstructed dragonfly flight kinematics from high-speed video to analyze aerodynamic forces and wake structure after wing damage, reinforcing his interest in how material properties dictate mechanical behavior. He’s particularly motivated to push AMD Lab’s self-driving capabilities further, closing the remaining gaps between manual and automated workflows. Outside the lab, he enjoys playing tennis, golfing, and practicing the guitar.
